About Me

My Photo
My blog is about our life after MORTGAGE FREEDOM (achieved Oct 2012), saving hard for TRAVEL EXPERIENCES and EARLY RETIREMENT from my job as a teacher. I also have an ULTIMATE LIFE LIST (which works like a Bucket List)of dream travel destinations and experiences. Please leave a comment if you can. I love reading them! A little about me! I am so grateful for the life I’ve been given. I don’t need ‘things’ to be happy. I appreciate my family, friends and the value of experiences over the materialistic. By respecting the power of money and using it wisely we have had a beautiful, simple wedding and bought a tiny cottage with some land overlooking fields. We try to live simply and appreciate the beauty of the nature around us. But we have an adventurous side too. I met Mr SFT whilst travelling in Cambodia. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY!

WHAT IS SEALED POT SUNDAY?

PLEASE JOIN US FOR SEALED POT SUNDAY!!

Have you been emptying your purse each week into your pot?

Have you found a coin down the back of the sofa and fed your pot?

Have you been putting in all your £2 coins or Loonies or Gold Coins in?

Have you 'saved and not spent'-not having that coffee has meant more for the pot?

Please pop along EVERY SUNDAY and share your week with the other GLOBAL SEALED POT CHALLENGERS. It's a chance to get to know and support each other! Maybe pick up an idea or two? And keep the momentum going-we have 34 more weeks to go until we open our pots together.

Just think of 10 things that are making you happy this month, write them down and grab the banner above for your post! Lets forget about the negatives for a minute, turn off the news and give some attention to all the good things in our lives!
The 10 things making me happy these days are:

  1. Mr Sft and I dancing together.
  2. My Mum and Dad cuddling.
  3. Walking along the Cornish Coast.
  4. Hearing of acts of kindness.
  5. Seeing beautiful wild flowers and hearing bird song.
  6. Sitting in our garden on a sunny day.
  7. Learning about something new and wonderful.Especially in history or the natural world. Been watching a great documentary about the Zambezi river which now makes me want to go and stay on that houseboat even more!
  8. Falling asleep with Mr Sft
  9. Our little forever cottage.
  10. Hearing this song on the radio.  We walked out of our wedding ceremony to it!

I've had a nice time with my parents today. My dad (at 77) has cut up a huge wooden palette to start replenishing our wood store. Mum and I weeded the garden a bit and chatted before visiting a friend at our local hospital. I got 30p change from my bus fare which I've popped in my sealed pot. I'm really looking forward to spending the next 4 days with Mr Sft. It's time he had a nice rest.

Thank you for your lovely comments about yesterday's post:
Day 363: Our next steps to Mortgage Freedom

Jane: I've had figures since we started our Mortgage freedom journey. Hope you don't mind me asking but is your line of credit a type of debt? In the UK we have a financial guru called Martin Lewis, he tells us to pay of debts first if the interest rate is higher than savings interest rate. Alot of people, particularly of my parents' generation don't like debt full stop but I think it depends. I look forward to hearing what you decide.

Suze: May have a little more money for our spending money ...I'll let you know!

Cheapchick: I agree, I'm quite happy to go without lots of 'things' to have greater 'experiences' in life. Saving hard for those experiences just makes you appreciate them more.

Sandra: I try to be organised. But it has to interest me! I love salmon, it's my favourite food in the world, I love it more than chocolate.

Fran: I love looking at figures for our finances and feeling the sense of achievement when we've reached certain goals. The Harvester salad had lots of healthy choices, including pineapple.

Mrs Thrifty: I find so many people inspiring on blogs and the Frugaldom forum. And we couldn't do this without them.

Miss Piggy Bank: Great news that you are starting again and focusing on the mortgage. You have my support, all the way!

Frugal Down Under: Decreasing mortgage increase is a great goal, and your right better than the money sitting there. Looking forward to the post.

Jo: We are counting the months to mortgage freedom now. Having little treats keeps us going, that's for sure, frugal fun I call it.

Bryallen: I do hope our Mortgage is gone by New Year. All things remaining equal. I know that you will achieve all your dreams and more, you are so determined.

Silversewer: My dear friend, you have supported us for so long now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can't wait to celebrate reaching our goal with you.

Please add me to the "Sealed pot challenge" mine's a disney tin from Poundland, my new favourite shop since I started to think about a "frugal life" otherwise known as thinking about my son's uni fund and our retirement! :-)

  4. Erm! I probably won't blog, I've read yours and others and they all look fab and are really interesting! I was caught up in the moment when Google said "create blog"! I don't think I've anything interesting to say!
It's great to read people making a difference to their lives and turning away from this "must have/I deserve it" culture. Like most people I have a job that is stressful and demanding and to balance that I do something creative by renovating furniture, otherwise I'd sit on my laptop all the time reading about other people being creative! Anyway I'm clearly rambling so will stop now!! :-)

  6. 3 months into the new year...finally worked on a budget for 2012! not going to Key West, not buying a new camera...I have 3 point and shoots...I'm not totally familiar with what each one of them can do! when I've learned everything I need to know about these 3 I'll consider a more advanced camera. been walking in the park with Baron the past two days...have seen 2, probably, professional photographers...they both looked at me like I was a little nutty with my unsophisticated camera! I did not envy them having to lug around such a huge piece of equipment!

love your header photo! love chickens too! is this at your cottage?

  10. Love you very FRUGAL list :) The best things in life really ARE free! Yes, a line of credit is debt - the limit is based on the value of my home. I have no mortgage on my condo. Because the rate is so low I've used the line of credit to purchase my car (2.25% vs 8.9% that the car dealership offered as their BEST rate!) and paid $20,000 on my home in PEI. Over the past 1.5 years I've paid it down from $56,000 to $23,000 and pay it down monthly by at least $1700. What I'm thinking of doing is increasing the monthly payment to whatever is needed to bring it to zero by Dec. 31st. I have the rest of April to figure it out.
